Our Purpose

We believe that the purpose of music in worship is grounded in Scripture as found in Colossians 3:16-17:

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God. And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

We seek to glorify God through our corporate and individual offerings of praise and to encourage one another through the beauty of creative music to the His Glory alone.

We strive to make our music ministries accessible to all who wish to participate and welcome persons of all ages and achievements to find an area of musical ministry which best matches their expressive and creative abilities.

We desire fellowship through music of all genres and celebrate the gift of music from all ages as a witness to the power of God in the lives of people changed by the good news of grace through our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Our Music

Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church is a body of believers with a Reformed perspective of our Christian walk. Guided by our elected Elders and lead by our Pastor, we seek to build a body of disciples who continue the work of Christ’s love of the world through service and mission. We are encouraged in this work through weekly worship, and music is a creative force through which our Lord’s message of love and grace is proclaimed and experienced.

HBPC is unique among many Christian assemblies in that we have a “dual format” of worship styles; contemporary praise as well as Reformed traditional. As diverse as the local Body of Christ is, so too is our music. Our contemporary praise music incorporates the latest compositions including unique individual interpretations of Christian and pop music in our dynamic worship experiences. Our traditional service uses music of varied styles and backgrounds, including classical, baroque, country gospel, contemporary pop, and hymn standards of the church as experiences of praise and teaching.

Both musical genres at HBPC draw upon the unique talents of our local church and as such serve as a personal testimony in song. While we strive for excellence in our musical offerings, we first seek to offer music which is well prepared, original and testimonial to God’s grace; not to serve as entertainment or as a “commercial” feature of worship. Music at HBPC is a personal experience and we delight in the gifts of our musicians of all ages and levels of ability.
