WE GATHER

WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS & OPENING PRAYER

by Rev. Dr. Jonathan T. Swanson, Pastor

Opening Prayer

King of kings and Lord or lords, we come to you in a time of uncertainty, thanking you for being our safe harbor that does not change.  We ask that in this time of worship we may cling to you, throwing ourselves at your feet.  We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our rock and fortress, in whose name we worship.  Amen.

A Kickoff Moment

CONFESSION

Chris Cavan

CALL TO CONFESSION (John 3:16)

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Are you angry with us, God? Do you give second chances—and third and fourth? Can you understand why we have failed you again? Is there still a place for us in your plan? We make no excuses, and it seems preposterous to make promises. All we can do is lay claim to your good will, as expressed in Jesus Christ. Forgive us, O God, and help us to make tomorrow a better day than today…(moments of silence)

ASSURANCE (1 Peter 1:3)

He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

RESPONSE TO FORGIVENESS – “Gloria Patri”

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (Psalm 139:23-24)

Chris Cavan

Search us, O God, and know our hearts; test us and know our thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in us, and lead us in the way everlasting. Amen.

OLD TESTAMENT READING (Isaiah 28:16)

Chris Cavan

Therefore thus says the Lord God, See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: “One who trusts will not panic.”

NEW TESTAMENT READING (1 Peter 2:2-6)

Rev. Dr. Jonathan T. Swanson, Pastor

Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation—if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.  Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  For it stands in scripture: “See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD’S PRAYER

Rev. Dr. Jonathan T. Swanson, Pastor

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
