Following is a summary of the discussions and decisions during the stated meeting of session on November 19, 2020:

 

Following is a summary of actions approved during the July meeting:

 

A. Voted to hold the Congregational Meeting immediately following the worship service on Sunday, December 13, 2020 for the purpose of electing leaders.

 

B. Voted to hold ordination/installation of officers on Sunday, January 10, 2021 followed by training for newly ordained/installed elders and deacons.

 

C. Voted to elect the following as corporate officers for the year 2021:

    • President                            George Ross

    • Chief Operating Officer      Jonathan Swanson
    • Motion made, seconded and carried

D. Voted to the following team leaders for the year 2021:

E. Approved request to baptize Olivia Parmenter, daughter of Susannah Parmenter, churchmember, on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the 10:00 am worship service.

 

F. Approved request for Pastor Jon to conduct a brief service of dedication, immediately following worship service, Sunday, November 22, 2020, for the tree planted by Betty’s Buddies in memory/honor of deceased charter member Betty Sowder.

 

G. Approved request from Cub Scout Pack, chartered at HBPC, to allow females to join in accordance with current BSA guidelines.

 

H. Approved securing Karin Gulick as adjunct custodian during the absence of Winston Kamanga.

 

I.Approved continuing to offer Holy Communion during Sunday worship service on the first Sunday each month in 2021.

 

J. Approved holding Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.

 

K. Additional Information shared:

    • The finances continue to remain ‘on track’ with giving meeting budget plan while expenses are less than planned at this time; non-budgeted giving is ahead of plan
    • The Generosity Campaign report:
      • As of Sunday, Nov. 15, received pledges from 78 giving units for a total of $524,000; slightly below number of pledges received for year 2020; however approximately $7,000 more pledged
      • 16 of those are new pledges
    • There has been a leak in the choir room apparently caused by some gutter malfunction; no structural damage; mold abatement completed; drywall replaced; work to be completed within next 2 weeks.

Following is a summary of the discussions and decisions during the stated meeting of session on October 15, 2020:

 

Following is a summary of actions approved during the July meeting:

  • A. Voted to not hold the annual dinner/joint meeting of Deacons and Session in December based on current CDC guidelines.
  • B. After much discussion, approved youth sponsoring an inter-generation ‘packing event’ for Thanksgiving boxes; Dakota will coordinate with an organization to determine number and content of boxes

  • The finances continue to remain ‘on track’ with giving meeting budget plan while expenses are less than planned at this time; non-budgeted giving is ahead of plan
  • The Generosity Campaign theme is “thank you” to the congregation with ‘boxed’ brunch available for members to order in advance then pick-up following service on Nov. 15
  • The youth group continues to be busy with upcoming plans to visit a corn maze
  • Trunk and Treat plans for October 24 were shared
  • Blessing of the Animals was well-attended; 25 – 30 animals were blessed
  • Marie Hix gave her report from the Presbytery Meeting and encouraged Session members to review the Camp Montgomery document attached to her written report
  • Wezi Blunt shared some updates from the Outreach Committee.
  • Lynn McVaney presented the Deacon’s report with these highlights:
    • They are reviewing and updating their policies and procedures
    • They continue to remain in contact with members who are unable to attend

Following is a summary of actions approved during the July meeting:

 

  • A. Three new members were received:
    • Sarah Goodwin Moylan on reaffirmation of faith
    • Richard and Jana Bobo transferring membership
  • B. Elected Marie Hix as Commissioner to the called October 6, 2020 St. Augustine Presbytery meeting; to be held via ZOOM
  • C. Approved change to HBPC By-Laws to include Chief Operating Officer as a corporate officer effective January 1, 2021. NOTE: Adds a position to the corporate officers with no intent to increase the current staff. Rather, additional responsibilities, as detailed in the Position/Limitations document provided, are added to the role of the Pastor.

  • Blessing of the animals on October 4 – 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm — asked that Session please support the event; wear mask, socially distance; bring your pet; can leave once blessing occurs
  • Fall Festival on October 24 — some minor changes to the event; asked that Session please support the event; will be an area for Trunk or Treat; Opportunity for congregation to provide wrapped candies; will be some games for older children

Summary of Stated Session Meeting held August 20, 2020

Following is a summary of actions approved during the July meeting: 

  1. Elected Lori Bergeron as Commissioner as the Commissioner to the called August 25, 2020 St. Augustine Presbytery meeting; to be held via ZOOM. 
  2. Approved scheduling the Annual Congregational Meeting on September 27th to elect elders and deacons for the Class of 2023 and the Youth Elder for the Class of 2021. 
  3. Approved replacing the lights in the parking lot with LED lights; by doing so, the parking lot will be lighter and the electricity usage will be less. JEA offers a rebate for the change-over so the cost of $5,650 will be recovered within two years. 

Additional Information shared: 

  • The finances continue to remain ‘on track’ with giving meeting budget plan while expenses are less than planned at this time; non-budgeted giving is ahead of plan 
  • The youth group continues to grow with 16 youths attending an event of August 16; new members joining as a result of Camp Joy held in June and several youths are moving into middle school. 
  • Encouragement to move ahead with their plans was provided to the Fellowship Ministry Team after they shared plans for a Blessing of the Animals service on Sunday afternoon, October 4 and the annual Fall Festival on Saturday, October 24.

Following is a summary of the discussions and decisions during the stated meeting of session in July 16, 2020: 

 

Following is a summary of actions approved during the July meeting: 

  • Approved serving during worship using the individually packaged elements containing wafer and wine in one package. Beginning with the first Sunday in August, 3.  Individually packaged elements will be distributed to worship service attendees as they enter the sanctuary.

Additional Information shared: 

  • Property committee announced that the windows near the Preschool door and the Fellowship entry door will be repaired the week of July 20. 
  • The finances continue to remain ‘on track’ with giving meeting budget plan while expenses are less than planned at this time  
  • The Task Force announced plans to contact members of the congregation during the month of August to determine if there member(s) have needs the HBPC could meet and/or determine how the member(s) are faring during this Covid-19 sheltering-in-place.

Following is a summary of the discussions and decisions during the stated meeting of session in June 16, 2020:

 

Following is a summary of actions approved during the May meeting:

  • Approved congregational meeting for congregation’s acceptance to Pastor Jon’s terms of call recommended by session.
  • Approved Chris Cavan as messenger to June 23, 2020 Presbytery meeting and Marie Hix as messenger to July 28, 2020 Presbytery meeting.

Additional Information shared:

  • Property committee is securing bids for repair of windows in hallway outside preschool rooms.
  • Generosity and Finance reported spending by Mission Teams restored to original plan that is: “Mission Teams may spend funds already budgeted; however, if the expenditure is greater than $5,000, the Generosity and Finance Mission Team must be notified to ensure appropriate funds on hand without jeopardizing other committed expenses, such as payroll.”
  • Updates to processes for Worship (passing of the peace acknowledgement without leaving pews), and children’s message, children’s worship and nursery opening while continuing to meet appropriate distancing guidelines.
