- Dr. Cynthia M. BenzInterim Pastor(904) 223-6922 (ext 3)
HBPC welcomed Dr. Cynthia M. Benz as the Transitional Pastor in September 2017 upon the retirement of Dr. David Pierce. While we were sad to see David leave, the Session and Transition Team as well as the congregation were thrilled to receive Cindy into the Hodges family and experience her leadership during this time of change.
She has been privileged to have served interim pastorates in churches in the Presbyteries of East Tennessee, Redstone (Western Pennsylvania), and St. Augustine (Jacksonville, FL). In addition to interim ministry, Cindy loves older adult ministry and stewardship. Cindy’s undergraduate degree is in Business Administration from Shorter College (now University) in Rome, GA; she earned her Master of Divinity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, and her Doctor of Ministry degree in Interim Ministry from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Kentucky.
Cindy answered her call to ministry and started seminary after working many years for SunTrust Banks and when her younger daughter started college. In considering her service in the church, Cindy will tell you she’s never worked harder, but has never been happier. God is good! Cindy and her husband Steve reside in Jacksonville.
Cindy’s great personal loves include traveling, reading, and any activity that involves water or the beach. Most travel plans typically involve going to visit family and helping with whatever the project-du-jour is. Oh, and Cindy really, really loves good coffee, and is particularly committed to coffee that is fair trade.
Cindy and Steve have two grown daughters and their family life is very important to them. Their older daughter, Julie is the Director of Marketing and Communications for WaveGuide, Inc., and lives in Portland, OR. She and her husband, Randy (who works for the EPA), are the parents of the Benz’s only grandchild, Moses. The Benz’s younger daughter, Bethany Benz-Whittington and her husband, Matthew, are also ordained Ministers of Word and Sacrament, and moved in June to Longmont, CO, where Bethany serves as the Associate Pastor of Westview Presbyterian Church. Matthew recently concluded a chaplain residency at Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville. Bethany preached here at Hodges just prior to their move to Longmont.

- William BroylesDirector of Music Ministries(904) 223-6922 (ext 6)
William (“Bill”) Broyles has been our church musician for 23 years. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, and has worked in the Aerospace and Medical Device industries for many years.
His piano and organ studies began at an early age when he studied under Dr. Beatrice Howlett at Coatesville Presbyterian Church in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Coatesville Area School district further enriched his musical training by providing the opportunity to participate in the marching and concert bands, orchestra, drama, and large, touring vocal groups. Bill believes that music was created by God for his Glory and that the church stands as a witness to the grace and lordship of Jesus when our music glorifies him in worship and life.
Bill has been happily married for 30 years to Candace and they have three children, sons Evan and Aaron and daughter Cara, along three crazy Corgi pups. In his free time, Bill enjoys all types of outdoor activities, reworking older cars, and home and garden projects.
