The Rev. Dr. Jonathan T. Swanson comes to Hodges Blvd Presbyterian Church from the Central Presbyterian Church of Miami, where he had served as pastor for ten years. He has also served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville, Texas, for eight years. He was Chaplain and Director of Spiritual Life Lecturer for Westminster College, while serving as Parish Associate for First Presbyterian Church in Fulton, Missouri, and Parish Associate for College Ministry at the First Presbyterian Church in Waco, Texas. He has worked as a Fiscal Analyst for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve Bank, and as Lecturer in Economics and Ethics for Baylor University and Central Texas College.
Swanson was born in California but moved to Vienna, Virginia when he was three years old and grew up there. He is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia with a degree in economics, and he was awarded the Master of Divinity in 1996 from Princeton Theological Seminary. He completed a Ph.D. in Theological Ethics with minors in New Testament and Business Administration in 2005 from Baylor University.
He is a long distance runner, having run in many marathons and ultra-marathons. He enjoys teaching, reading and traveling.

Debbie Abbott, a Certified Christian Educator, is the Director of Faith Formation for children, youth and adults. Debbie strongly believes that we have a creative God, so we need to exercise our creative muscles to glorify and thank God. She accomplishes her creativity through promoting intergenerational gatherings, thinking outside the box, diving deep into the Bible, and going out into the world to spread God’s love. Her passion is “shining brightly,” puppets, tweens, adults, and mission. Growing up in Illinois, New York City and South Carolina, then living in four other states, as well as 4 overseas countries (The Netherlands, Italy, England, and Venezuela), Debbie brings vast cultural and people experience to her ministry at Hodges.
Her undergraduate degree is in English Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and masters degree is from Winthrop in The Art of Teaching English. After completing a rigorous program of study and practice, Debbie received her Certified Christian Educator certification through Union Seminary in 2017. This brings new skills and ideas to HBPC’s Christian education for all ages.
Debbie and her husband Ned have been married close to 40 years. They have 2 fabulous adult kids, Gwyn and Brooks. Tennis, travel, food, drama and simply being in nature are a few of her passions.

Dakota Czerniak is our Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries serving our middle and high school students.
Dakota holds an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s in clinical mental health counseling with a focus in children, adolescents, and teens from the University of North Florida. Dakota brings her unique experiences working as a therapist in the mental health field to her work as Youth Director. Dakota is passionate about providing youth a safe and accepting space to be heard, explore and grow in their faith.
Dakota was born and raised in Oviedo, Florida and moved to Jacksonville in 2011 to attend UNF. In November 2018, Dakota married her best friend, Gage and have officially planted roots with their first home here in Jacksonville. Dakota enjoys good food, iced coffee, nerdy things (harry potter, video games, superheroes and Star Wars), pretending to be Joanna Gaines by doing DIY interior design, meeting new people and traveling to novel places.

William (“Bill”) Broyles has been our church musician for 23 years. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, and has worked in the Aerospace and Medical Device industries for many years.
His piano and organ studies began at an early age when he studied under Dr. Beatrice Howlett at Coatesville Presbyterian Church in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Coatesville Area School district further enriched his musical training by providing the opportunity to participate in the marching and concert bands, orchestra, drama, and large, touring vocal groups. Bill believes that music was created by God for his Glory and that the church stands as a witness to the grace and lordship of Jesus when our music glorifies him in worship and life.
Bill has been happily married for 30 years to Candace and they have three children, sons Evan and Aaron and daughter Cara, along three crazy Corgi pups. In his free time, Bill enjoys all types of outdoor activities, reworking older cars, and home and garden projects.

Jenni Braden Cole is our Nursery and Early Childhood Coordinator. Jenni has attended our church since she was 2 1/2 years old and thinks of Hodges as her second home. Indeed, Jenni was baptized, confirmed and married in this church. Jenni has worked in our nursery for over seven years and brings great love and valuable experience to this position.
After attending Mandarin High School, where she was President of the Key Club and ultimately Lt. Governor of the Key Club of NE Florida, she attended FSCJ and earned her AA degree in Business Administration and her Child Development Associate Certification. Currently she is the lead preschool teacher in the two-year-old class here at Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Preschool.
In November 2017, Jenni and her husband Chris welcomed their own bundle of joy, Charlie Ann, into this world to begin her faith journey at Hodges.

Most of her life was spent growing up in Atlantic Beach Florida. Her family moved here when she was entering the third grade, when her father retired from the USMC. A graduate of Fetcher Highschool. Following high school, she attended FCCJ and earned a National Child Development Associate along with a Post-Secondary in Childcare Management and The State of Florida Directors Credential. She serves on the Leadership Board for the Duval Early Learning Directors Network since 2014. She began her involvement at the preschool working as a volunteer on the outreach committee of HBPC to have a licensed preschool in 2002. In 2003, she began working at the school starting as a part-time preschool assistant, then lead teacher and currently as the Preschool Director. Hope is married to Hal and they have two children, Justine 21 and Joseph 16. She enjoys early morning beach walks and camping with her family.
